From what I could tell (The resource monitors points to the system process)
the VM was causing the HD's in my storage box to crank away. I'm guessing
that Vista decided it would be nice to run a defrag, system scan or
something of the sort after the install. It finally settled down after an
hour or so. I will still say that Vista with SP1 is considerably slower
than Win XP SP3.

why is it so slow? what is holding it up? CPU? Memory? Disk?? Something
else?

and I think vista is NOT a client for VMs... needs WAY too much RAM. XP is
much better but people want Vista.. oh my...

I just got done installing Vista in VM (XenServer) and now I want go curl up
in a corner and cry. It's painfully slow in a VM compared to Vista. It
took 20+ minutes to bring up a network share (win 2003 server) so that I
could launch the Provision Server Client Install. I should get Camtasia or
ScreenRecorder and document this.

Yah, I agree with you Joe. I actually love Vista as I have a REALLY FAST
PC so it can handle vista but it is far from what I would like. So, I have
switched to the Mac in some ways. I have two Mac. A 17" laptop and a 14"
laptop. I love them BUT, without VMware Fusion I find it to be useless for
business. In fact, I don't use it at all for work but only use it as an
iTunes box, for podcasts, for videos, movies, and all that stuff...
Office 2008 is much better but I just hate having only one mouse button and
I know I can plug a mouse in but not while I'm on my couch or in bed (I love
to work in bed, is that too much info for you guys??? )... So, Thanks
for VMware and Parallels my Mac is useful but I really need a solid state
drive as I HATE the slowness of the VMs... I sit and wait and wait and wait
and now matter how much you hate Vista I don't wait with Vista.. Only XP
running in a VM on my Mac...

So, I pray Microsoft gets 7 right. I think they know how we all feel and
today it is just way tooooooooo early to tell what 7 will be like... But,
I jus don't think the Mac is a solution..

Although, I know Steve G is a big Mac guy so I would love to hear his views
on it and maybe he can explain how I can use my Mac for more than just fun..
;)

I guess it's time to switch to a Mac.
