No markup is simply not going to happen in my shop unless there is a special
reason to accommodate a client or it is a warranty repair. We price them at
a 30% margin, special order, paid in advance, no warranty if we don't do the
work. If people don't want to pay the price we refer them to the
manufacturer and they can replace it themselves. There will be enough
people bringing them to us with bad ballasts for real repairs after they
blow a couple of lamps or it won't start with the new one. I am not
concerned with losing sales on the lamps themselves to the manufacturers nor
minor labor charges to replace lamps. Eventually there will be more vendors
making the lamps and the prices will come down. All of the manufacturers
will eventually go to user replacement on the lamps anyway.

There is a good database on the web with lots of cross-references on the
lamps for many projectors at Don's Bulbs. A bit difficult to navigate, but
a great deal of good info.

cost=list is a fool's errand IMO, and we will not participate in this kind
of nonsense. Manufacturers have been showing list prices with little or no
margin on parts for years, yet we still set our own margins where they need
to be to stay in business. If the clients can change the part themselves
and choose to take the risk of doing so, then so be it, they don't need us.
