Wayne,
I wonder if Sony is different than the others ? Wouldn't be the first time.
Reason being that, the sets that give instructions for customer lamp
replacement do not, as far as I know, include ballast replacement in the
instructions.

this case the fool didn't clean the intake filter it was so dirty. He said
he kept getting this on screen message to clean filter before it went out.
He wiped it off and message would go away.
Told him to remove and clean filter with vaccuum or rinse under water then
air dry at least once a month.
