Re: [pure-silver] Re: GrainI think you have hit on the problem for me....
All this computer driven output requires a lot of "personalization" that
then changes is you change any 1 variable. It is a personal problem, but I
just can not deal with it. I look forward to a simple process flow that I
can buy the tools for standard output devices. So that when I input the
programs, input my files for negatives, I get a proscribed output that I
can count on without fiddling using standard output devices.

Right now I use 1 paper, 1 film, a developer for each, and 1 enlarger. yes,
there are an infinite list of each of those tools, but I CAN simplify my
life be eliminating all the variables except 1. I do not feel that is
possible with the computer approach, given that I do not own the image
setter, at least.....

It may be days, weeks, months, or years away, but as long as I own a wet
darkroom, I feel insulated from the computer world and its infinite choices,
tweaks, and variables... But I will continue to ask questions to check
......

Thanks for answering , and best of luck Ralph......

You want just the fish or the fishing rod?

To get the most from it, you need to make your own, because the variables
include the image setter, your monitor gamma, your paper and your
processing, but you can have a copy of my current transfer function for
Photoshop. It is made for gamma 2.2 and my Ilford Multigrade IV FB and my
processing.

The method, how to produce the transfer function with confidence will be
published at a later date. Sorry.
