yep, I removed and reinstalled everything but the win 98, that I just installed 
over the old one. I do think it has to be wmp because all the other programs 
have sound. I have a sound recorder program "Silent-bob" that was working but 
now when I try to use it on the programs that have sound it says Bad Format.

  Hank... I don't remember if you said you tried this. Did you try removing 
Windows Media Player and then reinstalling it again?
