I've recently moved companies and discovered (by accident yesterday) that we
have an inhouse style guide which INSISTS on two spaces still. I guess
there is a divide between business correspondence and desktop based work
which will always exist, plus a certain amount of transatlantic variation!

<g> here also!

Sorry, didn't mean to ruin your day...but it is SO EASY to see someone who
has learned/had design training and who hasn't...cos' one uses one space the
other uses two spaces.

I explained this in my MS Office class the other day and there's always
one/two in the class that looks shocked, too. My student has now been
practicing for weeks to remember ONE SPACE, ONE SPACE. He has one more week
to practice until I start taking points off for two spaces! <vbeg>

Dian! I'm shocked! LOL

One exceedingly professional typist person by training with hurt feelings.
(that's two spaces there btw) ;)

LOL

ONE SPACE!

Amateurs use two. PERIOD!

A typewriter needed two, but a computer is proportional spacing and knows
what a period is. Granted, if you are using a non-proportional font, such as
courier, then two would help clarify the spacing. But for a professional
document with proportional spacing on a computer...use ONE after all
punctuation.
