I like especially the references to the Chicago Manual of Style and the piece on desktop publishing as well as the explanation for why the two-space convention came into being. I, too, am old enough to remember hot type -- in fact, Gutenberg and I were drikin' buddies for a time. It is easy enough to set the option for one space in Word, but it will be really hard for me to drop the second space in my writing from now on. Thanks for the help.
