Hi George,
My apologies. Perhaps you misunderstood the entire purpose of the thread.
It was not for sympathy or the like. Someone who has been a long term member
of the blind Mac community had something terrible happen to him involving the
loss of his laptop computers. For a computer user, this would strike a chord
of understanding or even a bit of compassion.

I don't think anyone asked for anything specific. Marcie put the
information on the list with my permission and we were looking for possible
suggestions as to how we might be able to do something for the guy. I don't
think anyone expected every person on the list to jump forward with some kind
of offer. That would be unrealistic, especially since so many of us can hardly
afford the proverbial rent as it is.

We were looking for ideas and options. No one asked for anything specific
nor would I even consider it. It is up to the individual to decide what they
might want to do or if anything. That is also why we asked to write us
privately for your ideas and not to clutter the list.
If someone can do something, as someone has already offered, that's great. If
not, your thoughts and prayers are good enough for the guy.

Remember also that it's not just the material that was taken. David is
shaken up quite a bit and I'm not going to bother to go into the details of
that. If you have been or know someone who has been the victim of a crime, you
will understand. I don't know what his insurance situation is, nor any
personal details beyond what he told me, and I frankly don't care. If a little
something can be done to help the guy, that's perfectly fine for me. You are
welcome to help or it is your choice not to if you can't or simply don't want
to.

Finally, the reason why I allowed this topic to be presented here was
because of David's contributions to the blindness Mac and iDevice community.
For all he as done for so many others without asking for anything in return, I
thought it was worth letting folks know about what had happened to him. It has
nothing to do with friendships or the like. Community is community, and
friendships transcend that. A community is stronger than any government
program or even private organization.
