Hi Dianne,
You might check out the Air Drive "headphones" that are on the Sendero web
site. I use them and really like them because they are very comfortable and
don't restrict the ambient sound. They lay on the little piece of cartilage
in the front of the ear. I have replaced a mini speaker that I used for
years with them. They are self powered so don't require any charging or
batteries.

I am here in Northern, California and certainly don't have the weather
issues you are discussing, but using the Voice Sense with Sense Nav, I am
having trouble hearing. I had an external speaker which I tried, but it
didn't work well, probably because it is old, but like you, I don't want ear
phones when I am on the busy streets. Have a couple more things to try and
will check an electronics store for suggestions, but that is my major
problem with any of these. I have to hear them or they are useless.

Well, at minus 40 or even as warm as minus 30C which is just a little below
minus 20F, you need to keep electronics inside your clothing or the
electronics become unreliable according to most manufacturers literature.
For a time I tried using WayFinder on my phone in a large mitten but it is
really hard to hear. I didn't have a bluetooth headset but I don't much like
head sets when I am out traveling in the snow, sounds already being muted.
Reading a couple of lines of braille at intervals when you want to be
alerted to an intersection just doesn't cut it.
Now that I am retired I can just choose to stay home under blizzard or cold
conditions but then neither do I have need for GPS in my living room.
