Re slow-acting focus control ... there is a note in the Tech FAQ that helped me resolve it at this end ... Focuser went from "variably responsive" to "very responsive" with the setting change. Responsiveness of the focus control should NOT be affected by network speed ... unless the internet setting is incorrect and the browser is forced to ask about each frame as it tries to flash it up on the screen. I would sure like to be able to review the 7 calib movies that I marked as "no tracks" but they said did have tracks. I'm pretty consciencious about looking at each image carefully, and 6 of the 7 were, I thought, firm decisions. So, I must have some systemmatic error that in keeping my "sensitivity" measure down around 80%. Hmmm ... which means I must learn more. I did 100% on the original test Tuesday and repeated the tutorial Wednesday when my "sensitivity" measure dropped. It didn't help, except to suggest that I might be missing some very faint tracks. Maybe I need to put this up on a brighter monitor ... this old monitor is running as bright as it will go, and still many of the movies look pretty dim. Hmmm... I've got a nice flat screen TV sitting next to the computer monitor and the instruction on the TV said it will work as a monitor. But, then, I'd have to find another way to follow the ball game! I'd also like to see 'em loosen up the timeout for auto-logout ... Not even enough time to run to the kitchen, pour a cup of coffee, and run back and then to a good review of the movie! (At least that is what I think is happening.) After my initial earlier login, wherein the server was excruciatingly slow and it took me nearly an hour to review 12 movies, I managed to complete 175 real movies and 69 calibration movies in about 90 minutes. I moved quickly from a ranking of 3686 to 328. (I wanna get into that top 100) I'm so disappointed in myself with my specitivity/sensitivity scores of 92 and 91 - I really messed up in that initial login and marked four calibration movies incorrectly before I realized that even the focuser was not responding properly. Suspect tracks (rings) that would have normally focused on out as non-tracks remained focused with that crawling server and I marked them as tracks before giving the focuser enough time to respond. Darn it! ;) For those who are pre-registered and tested, but havent yet logged in, I highly recommend reviewing the tutorial before you start your first viewing session. Maybe doing so myself would have saved me those four errors in my original slow server/response login. Marco, I agree. I suspect those movies with the sharp focus at the bottom were actually reversed or inverted sequences. Regarding the movies that are clearly two different areas - I recall a mention of those in the tutorial somewhere. I had five or six of those. The best part of all this is the movies themselves. Just to think about what we are actually reviewing. This composite, that aerogel, was exposed to a world billions of miles from here - some exotic place that we'll always only know through images and collectors. And how fantastic that we can, indeed, know it in even this way. I love it :) and I am thrilled with this opportunity to participate. So, a great experience with the StarDust@Home Project!
