You must also make sure the sewing area on the cap is parallel to the floor (or needleplate). You must also make sure the "bill stop" is not pushing too hard against the bill. You must not sew too high in the cap. The sewing field on the machine is 3.5" but that may not be the sewing field on YOUR cap. Just some thoughts. But as Rod said, give us some more details.
