I guess a good way to visualize it is that he is targeting a place  ahead of 
us, in this case the gate for the house.. or the corner of the street  or the 
curb..or a pole or the bus stop..You might also say that he is targeting  his 
chest into the harness too..same result.. a harder straight pull into  harness 
to a location ahead of us..instead of bailing to the side to deal with  the 
dogs..I am ok with a speed up past lunging barking dogs as a default  
behavior.. Just cue the place we are going to..and reward it when we get  
there..
