Can I ask what specific problems you had? If possible, can you tell me =
what
were the group policy settings that required you provide all users with
local admin. rights?

Interesting you had no problems. The last implementation that we =3D
implemented (now a number of months ago) had numerous issues with the =
=3D
DLU. To the point where the only was to get GPO's assigned the way the =
=3D
client wanted was to provide all users with local admin rights on the =
=3D
terminal servers.=3D20

This is of course ridiculous and Novell Consulting was unable to address =
=3D
the issue, and basically advised us that the problem was a limitation =
=3D
with the DLU and wasn't interested in fixing it after that.

Anyway the client is now working via a workaround with numerous scripts =
=3D
and custom code written to get around the problem.

One of our Novell Zen consultants is in the middle of doing a PoC on Zen =
=3D
4, so Im hoping that Zen 4 is a little more stable and workable than Zen =
=3D
3.2.

Now, we work over a pilot that works fine.

4 servers windows 2000 Sp3 with MTF FR2

1 Novell 6 SP2

120 Thin clients

To work with NDS & citrix and no NT domain, we need Zenworks and =3D
DLU=3D3D20

policy working.

All citrix servers need Novell client 4.83.

DLU policy working over this servers in Zenworks.

Users Terminal Server profile configure in Zenworks.

Nfuse configuring for authenticate over NDS, tree & context.

With this components, the farm works fine, such the integration =3D
with=3D3D20

Active directory or NT Domain. the only issue was that users in =
NDS=3D3D20

was created dinamically in all servers, but use a roaming profile =3D
in=3D3D20

a public share in Novell or NT Server. The printes, was accesed =3D
with=3D3D20

iprint and all drivers was installed in the 4 MTF servers.

When we implement this solution, i no found doc's, white papers =3D

solution.=3D3D20

We use Altiris here. In fact Im preparing for a presentation of it to =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
some clients while Im typing.=3D3D3D20

Integrating it with AD can achieve the same results as Zen.

Some of my co-workers are Zen CNE's and work with Zen almost every day =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
and are totally blown away with what can be done with Altiris and how =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
easy it is to setup.

Ill give you an example. They've just finished a large Zen integration =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
project for a client. It took 3 consultants/engineers to get it working =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
properly over a few days with more support from Novell as there was =
=3D3D
some =3D3D3D
more bugs found with it.=3D3D3D20

Where Ive just finished the M$ equivalent with Altiris and it took 1 =
=3D3D
day =3D3D3D
and worked first shot. The client was so impressed that he has =3D3D
purchased =3D3D3D
more server licenses of Altiris.

I think this speaks for its self.

Correct. But, according to him, the reason for the move is because
the Desktop team is going to use ZenWorks to push out software. My
counter to that was either SMS (the next version looks very sweat),
Marimba, Intel LANDesk, or Altiris. If they happen to use Symantec
Ghost for desktop deployment, then I believe the current version can
push out applications from the GhostCast server.

The idea of Zen is good but in practice it simply doesn't stack up. As =
=3D

=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D mentioned in a previous email we have done projects with =

pure =3D3D3D
=3D3D3D3D
Zen and =3D3D3D3D3D3D3D NDS no NT domains on large govt bodies and it =
has =3D
=3D3D
been =3D3D3D
=3D3D3D3D
frustrating.

=3D
=3D3D

=3D3D3D3D
=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D Netware and Zen, and looking at going to Win2k/ad as it =

=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D the support that Novell offer. It is to say at best =

=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D AD and Altiris at a fraction of the overhead.

I don't know where you can get horror stories, I just know from =3D3D
=3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D

experience, and other case studies. There are case studies on =3D3D
=3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D
=3D3D3D3D
Microsoft's site and NetIQ's site. Both are well done.

You need to explain that if you want to go to NDS, you will still have =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
=3D3D3D3D
=3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D3D3D to have an NT domain. Period. You will find =
that =3D
=3D3D
you =3D3D3D
will =3D3D3D3D
run into =3D3D3D3D3D3D issues if you don't. That is, if your FP servers =
=3D
=3D3D

=3D3D3D3D
other servers that =3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D3D3D are going to contain data =
