He was a tv servicer that thought there had to be some way to diagnose
deflection problems other than just replacing one part after another. He
came up with a variety of instruments for that purpose. The products were
not well received by the service industry and he went bankrupt. He had lots
of unsold inventory and entrepeneurs bought them up the bankruptcy auction
and offered them for sale at reduced prices - $100 to $200 depending on the
model.
We were a vcr and camcorder service operation that was forced into tv
service when the tv/vcr combos appeared. We hired a experienced tv guy to
take care of the tv part of the repairs. Every time one had a defective HOT
he also ordered a FBT. About half of the time it would turn out that there
was an additional problem, and we would usually lose the HOT again. I saw
the Diehl MKV advertised in a classified in Electronic Servicing and
Technology Magazine for $150 and ordered one. The Diehl showed us that only
about one time in 10 was the FBT defective, pointed to the problem circuit
area, and let us troubleshoot and fix it without ruining HOTs and FBTs. It
also allowed us to run tvs until an intermittant problem would show up. What
more could I ask?
