There were a variety of Diehl Scanner models. I think the MKV was about
$400. It did a good job of helping to diagnose tough dog problems, but you
still had to know how the tv worked, which was a big dissapointment to a lot
of people who were looking for an answer machine that would allow unskilled
personnel to do diagnostics.
The scanner took the place of the HOT and ran the tv if there was B+ and the
lights pointed to the trouble areas. You could disconnect the deflection
loads in the test mode until a trouble light went out and then check that
circuit. If everything was disconnected and a trouble light was still on,
you had a bad FBT. In the operate mode you could run the tv to allow
intermittant problems to show up. A meter monitored the B+ and some lights
showed if there was startup and drive.
