I have the Diehl Mark V unit...I did not purchase it
because it was about $1000, but got it free from a closing
TV repair shop that I used to help out. They never used
it. I've used it and took it apart. It had its own Horizontal
output transistor, drive signal and DC multimeter function(analog).
It would monitor the B+ (130 regulatated). It would supply the
primary flyback with 1/10 the B+ and therefore it has lights to
see if you had major shorts (flyback, yoke) and minor shorts (secondary B+

shorts...vertical ic, etc). By limiting the primary B+ voltage
then you could not blow up parts). I think Sencore took the page
right out of this design used it in their horizontal analyzer. The only
difference in my opinion is that Sencore added more bells and
whistles. By the way, I've used it a number of times for experimental
purposes and it worked (the Mark V unit). The $2500 unit that
the Diehl company was suppose market I think never made it.
I think you suppose just plug in the TV(like when you plug your
trouble set in an isolation transformer) it would have indicator
lights to tell you what section the problem occurred (LV power supply,
sweep,etc.). I remember looking at the ad saying that you don't
have to take cover off the back of your TV. With the Mark V
on you could run a full power test to blow the shorted parts
if you could not find the short. On the low power mode (1/10
voltage mode you could measure the voltages (secondary if there is
a short with your DVM but the voltages would be about 1/10 also.
Although I don't used it, it has worked for me on some tv's.
(Phil, I got it)
