I guess my position is this..yes we do evaluate dogs been shown as
potential breeding stock..some that are put up I would not breed to..some I
may put up..I would not breed to and some who may not have stellar show
records..I could easily breed to. I have always had a problem with the
confusion of breeding to a show record..and breeding to a dog who may not
have the show record..but can produce. Just because I put a dog up as a
judge..does not mean he is recommended for all bitches..nor does it
evaluate his future or present producing ability.Producing ability is an
anomaly that can't be evaluated in the ring. Many great dogs can't
produce...many good dogs end up being better producers..who knows why..that
is what keeps breeding dogs interesting! The Friday before Bull went GV..he
was still the same dog as he was on Sunday after he went GV. His winning
that title didn't make him a producer. The evaluation of breeding stock is
multi faceted..you look at the dog..you look at his breeding..you look at
whether he could compliment your bitch..if he has progeny on the
ground..were the bitches bred to him better than the dog? If so why do you
want to breed down? I am probably making more of this evaluation thing than
I should!LOL..Christine
