D.D., "Dead" tails as you describe have really started bothering me the last few years. I mostly show in the all breeds but do get to a few specialties every year. More and more I'm noticing tails that just hang and bounce off the hocks as well as dragging toes and locked hocks. I do feel that I'm seeing more of a neurological problem than a fixed tail. This really scares me. Of course I'm no vet and don't now for a fact, but this is my opinion. I'm currently trying to fulfill my requirements for my judges license and I can tell you this will be something that I watch for and will be very critical of. It's been a pet peave of mine for quite awhile. And so far, the dogs that I have personally seen with this problem go back to the same bloodlines. I picked TAIL because of what this section did not say. > Nowhere does it state the function of the tail in motion, only how it should > look at rest. As a judge, I severely fault (there is that ugly word again) > a tail that bounces off the hock and falls to the ground when not bouncing > off the hocks.
