I agree with you, too, Dawn and Pat.

Sometimes I feel like an assisted-living facility for geriatric animals. Other
than my one big self-indulgence...my constant companion and show dog, Harley, I
have an 11 year old Chihuahua that I took in 3 years ago, a 20 year old
Cockatiel, stuck at a reptile/amphibian rescue, that I took in 5 years ago (I
know nothing about them, but, taught myself how to do his nails yesterday), and
a 12 year old Siamese Cat, that I got from a local cat rescue 11.5 years ago.
They all have the run of my house, morning, noon, and night. I do not own a
kennel run, just a small back yard.

Grant Mann, Liebestraum Kennels, told me in his retirement years, that he
regretted having so many kennel dogs over the years. He warned me to not get
myself so overloaded that I would have to keep dogs in kennel runs. He said
that GSD's are extremely intelligent companion animals; they flourish when
sharing life with their owners. I believe that Grant was right on!!

I share your opinion Dawn. And I know I'll get a lot of flack for this
statement... but in my opinion, when you have a large number of dogs, too many
to be a part of your household, and those that are used on a large scale
for breeding, showing, and selling purposes, that situation is more akin to
having livestock than having pets, companions, or family members. That is a
choice that everyone has to make for themselves, but for me I love to have
my guys next to me on the couch, at my feet, etc. At one point I had seven,
(all in the house - talk about a herd of dogs) and I'm now down to three
seniors, two ten year olds, and my 12 year old. JMO
Regards,
Pat
