For me, my impression of the color is largely augmented by the PATTERN of the dog. I love love love sables and bi colors, but I do not like them as much if they're cream or silver. If the dog is black and cream/silver and saddled...forget about it. I prefer tan and black sables much more than red sables. I am not gaga over the red color in general. I like a deep rich tan.
