Not sure about the idea of breeding moderate to extreme and getting the happy
middle. My experience has been if you breed the moderate to the extreme, you
typically get the entire variation - and usually what is in the pedigree. If
you have an extreme dog that has a moderate parent, you usually get more
moderate and maybe a couple of extremes and so on.
I wish it were so easy as to breed exagerated perfect to moderate perfect to
get the happy middle. Unfortunately, you are deal with genetics and they don't
always play the same way.
JMHO.
BTW: Why should GSDs be any different than any other breed when it comes to the
public and what they want for cosmetics? People want only black Dalmatians
until they see liver ones. They want only blonde Goldens until they see red
ones. They want black Labs until they see Yellow... Although we all know that
temperament and health are the most important, pet people are just like show
people and they know what they like to look at !
