Don't use a hub if you were.

That's one thing about those cheap boxes, another reason for me to smal off the shelf hardware, these nicer motherboards have extra power on usb.

the gigabyte model I have talks about that on the site, that that was a problem, and lesser power supplies will cause that too.

that's why folks on laptops always have trouble with those drives that get power from the bus.

But on a top end pc, those devices will work better, but they do ask a lot from usb.

Before I knew better, I used to use an un-powered hub to run across the studio for my midi interfaces, and was always loosing my midi connectivity.

Hopefully, your new more daw like machine has better usb power.

You're right, using midi cables, I've learned to find the manufacturer list and model list; with winize 6.1 in XP; and maybe I could find the port assignments also. My problem with using the USB cable previously was that my XP repeatedly lost the Edirol USB driver, so USB connection never worked, but, hopefully, I've now got XP to hold on to it. Reason 6's auto detection of midi keyboard works slick as magic if it finds the USB midi driver, as you say.

Edirol claims their USB midi driver is faster than generic midi, and has less miti jitter, and maybe they're right. With USB, Reason preferences immediately saw the sound card's asio driver, and input latency was reduced to 7ms. Reason advises using the USB cable with the Edirol PCR series, but I'm a retro type and don't always listen to good advice. Has anyone experimented to learn if using the USB cable leaves 2 empty midi ports that can be use for other gear, and does that give you 32 midi channels, or do you still have only 16?

It probably identifies the driver, because with midi cables it's a more

but you sure can use a generic midi cable set-up because that's exactly
what I did.

I bet that dialogue speaks better with window-eyes in xp.

Hi Roy,
You're right, the USB cable is a better way to connect a control
surface to Reason 6.
It's apparently looking at the USB port to auto detect, because with
the USB cable connected it immediately detected and configured my
Edirol PCR-300.
I will try services.msc.
Thanks,
Indigo L

the services.msc app is the way to go; just set CodeMeter to the manual
state if it's in automatic mode.

Using run/msconfig, I unchecked Code Meter in startup, and afterward,
looking at services with msconfig, I find Code Meter as stopped, and ,
yet after rebooting; there it is in the Task Manager processes, 2
instances, 1 called Codemeter.exe and another called code meter
cc.exe; and they do not respond to end process in task manager.
I can look in administration/ services, to learn
what its status is there.
I believe administration/services is more powerful than msconfig.

I'm having a difficult time getting the right configuration for Reason
6 for my Edirol PCR-300.
I had it playing and controlling devices, then it seems to have lost
those settings.
Did you keep any notes on your Input 1 input 2 and output port
settings?
Are you connecting with midi cables or a USB cable from keyboard.
Thanks, Indigo

hope this clears things up

Hey Chris and DJX, Roy says, I've removed the CodeMeter program from
the startup group , and changed its services
to start manually , not automatically , so it doesn't automatically
load everytime
the system boots.Unquote.

I've got to learn to try more of these experiments, and not just sit
back and let myself be victimized by software.
What's the worse that could have happened, if that wasn't successful, Reason might crash after bootup, like I seem to remember happening to
Hypersonic 2 if its SynchroSoft isn't present.
Wow, this could make a real difference to me, not to have little odd
behaveors while Code Meter is running.
I'll remove Code Meter from the Win7 64 machine's startup first,
maybe
it'll return to its original quickness.
I still want Reason 6 on a drive by itself, though, just in case.
