Subject: [pure-silver] Re: D-76 and variations
Addendum: I just looked at the DuPont paper again. The
experiment carried out was to see what the effect of varying
the amount of Hydroquinone and Borax had on a D-76 type
developer. The authors conclude that the Hydroquinone is not
necessary and, in fact, fog levels were lower using Metol
alone. Because Metol is acid the activity of the developer
will be lowered as more is added unless compensated for by
the addition of more Borax. The sulfite content, as shown
below, is 75 grams per liter, closer to the optimum than the
100 grams per liter used by Kodak. Moyse and White agree
with the Kodak finding that bromide is not necessary.
DuPont's recommended developer based on the findings
described in this paper is:
Water 750.0 ml Metol 2.5 grams Sodium sulfite, dessicated 75.0 grams Borax, granulated 5.0 grams Water to make 1.0 liter
