That's true in some cases. The x has, in recent years, become part
of the popup, as these morons become more educated. But it usually
does not come up as any other application, except as Internet
Explorer. When looking at Task Manager, you should just right click on
Internet Explorer, and choose End Process Tree. That should close the
popups, as well as your browser. Then just go and reopen the browser.
As another option, and what I had to do for one of my customers,
because this wasn't just an ordinary popup, but spyware, and where the
anti-spyware programs had not seen this as spyware, was do a restore
from a previous date. My recommendation being two or three days before
you had first noticed this problem.
