Try either of these and see if they help: Go to this key in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced In the right hand area, double click "hidden" and change the value to 1. Another method....... 1. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL 2. Look at the "CheckedValue" key. This should be a DWORD key. If it isn't, delete the key. 3. Create a new key called "CheckedValue" as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1. 4. The "Show hidden files & folders" check box should now work normally. 5. You may have to create if it's not there, or change if it is there, "DefaultValue" to 2. Also: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden There you should see 2 more keys "NOHIDDEN" and "SHOWALL". Make sure that the values of "CheckedValue" and "DefaultValue" in right-side pane are "2" and "2" for "NOHIDDEN" and "1" and "2" for "SHOWALL" respectively. If it's not, then change them and you'll be able to enable/disable these options in "Folder Options". A restart may be required after doing either of those. This behavior can also be caused by a worm or virus. -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://www.OrpheusComputing.com http://www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harold B." Hello again (using Windows XP) ... In the explorer window, when going to Tools > Folder Options > View > Hidden files and folders, there are two choices: "Do not show..." and "Show..." What is happening with me is that whichever button I click, after "Apply" or "OK", the hidden files and folders do NOT show and the button always reverts to "Show hidden files and folders". Now how might it be fixed? --- Harold ========================= The list's FAQ's can be seen by sending an email to PCWorks-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with FAQ in the subject line.
