I don't know, I've never heard of them being reversed before.
I'd scan for malware using EVERY method possible, since like I
said malware can cause this. See the 5th post on this page of
mine for starters:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3596789&SiteID=17

Did you read over the 3rd method well? There's some "2"
options in there besides 0 and instead of 1.

For your #2 below: For myself, and I'm sure several others at
the list, PC's are our business. When you build/repair/sell
something 12+ hrs a day for so many years, you learn things.
;-) I can't remember many registry keys verbatim, but I do
remember their general location and I have to look that up many
times to find the *exact* location. The registry is the
"heart" of a PC, that's where pretty much everything is
controlled. When something gets messed up with an OS (like odd
behavior, functionality problems, etc.), it can usually be
fixed in some keys in the registry.

Here are my key exports from method #2, you can compare these
to yours:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\NOHIDDEN]
"RegPath"="Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Advanced"
"Text"="@shell32.dll,-30501"
"Type"="radio"
"CheckedValue"=dword:00000002
"ValueName"="Hidden"
"DefaultValue"=dword:00000002
"HKeyRoot"=dword:80000001
"HelpID"="shell.hlp#51104"

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL]
"RegPath"="Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Advanced"
"Text"="@shell32.dll,-30500"
"Type"="radio"
"CheckedValue"=dword:00000001
"ValueName"="Hidden"
"DefaultValue"=dword:00000002
"HKeyRoot"=dword:80000001
"HelpID"="shell.hlp#51105"

You can make backups of your keys, then just import those above
and see if they fix it. A quick of way of doing this is after
you export your key values for these, drag and copy them, then
open each copy in Notepad, delete the contents then paste this
data in them. (Of course one area for one reg file, and the
other area for other reg file). Then click and import them.

Those long lines above did not wrap when I checked, so you
should not need to modify them. 9 lines each, not counting the
Registry Editor version and line skip. Or if you'd rather you
can just manually change yours to these after making backups of
your keys.

RESPONSE ... The only change that made a difference was
following your
second suggestion. Note the following:
  1.. The "CheckedValue" key is a REG_DWORD key. Not knowing
too much about
the registry, I guess the "REG_" is just an name appendage and
it is still
the "DWORD" that you mentioned.
  2.. I did change the value to 1 and it is much better now.
Only the
"Hidden files and folders" now works in reverse. This is all
right with me;
at least I can get to the hidden files and folders
TWO ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS
1. Now is there a way to reverse the selections so that "Show"
actually
shows and "Hide" actually hides?
2. Something that interests me even more is how you, Clint, and
many others
in this PCWorks forum (and they know who they are), how do you
know all
these intricacies about the computer? The registry to me is a
deep mystery;
how does one know to go to those areas and make those changes?
What I'm
really asking is, what did YOU do (what did you google etc.) to
know to go
to that particular part of the registry and make those
particular
changes? --- Harold

FIRST METHOD
Go to this key in the registry:
> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

SECOND METHOD

THIRD METHOD
