This started as a CD burning thread, so I'll throw in my latest. I'm convinced there will be an entire generation or more with virtually no childhood photos due to lack of backups CD/DVD is part of a good backup scheme, but I use External HDs primarily. I've been setting up my friends with large HDs, a backup program and burning DVDs of their files and photos to get them started. Imagine my surprise to visit two of these friends recently and find the external drives no longer attached to the computers. It seems to be a matter of not understanding the function. These are not stupid people (An engineer and a wealthy builder). Computers have a long way to go.
