the only things I ever get are jpg's inserted in mail OR stationery and on 
occassion when I buy such, I get embroidery files, zipped form, attached. 
Anything attached gets scanned before opening.

I also apply a great deal of common sense BEFORE I open an attachment.  If
you exchange a lot of executable files, scripts, macros etc then it might be
wise to keep the preview pane closed.
