ok - after scandisk ran, it booted.
Said it recovered from a serious error. I'll say so!!!
and it will happen again - it directed me to windows updates for
driver updates and bios updates. Windows update sent me to Dell.
There is a list there - several called 'urgent'
so - directions for one says double click the exe file... well, what downloaded
was a .cab file. WHAT do I do with a .cab file?
I'll work down the list of recomended and urgents and leave the optionals
alone.
But I have a feeling I won't know what to do with a lot of them!

ok ! I'll do that - certainly worth a try!
my scans are still going on - sheese!!
I hate to stop them in the middle. One of the things I read said could be a
virus - but I am pretty careful about virus's but it is possible -
I'll let you know what happens when I take out the ram.
Thanks again!!!!!

It's says that a stick ram inside you laptop is bad going bad or not reading
the way it should. Depending on how much ram you have you may be able to
take a stick out see if the problem comes back if not that ram you took out
is the culprit. If problem persist put the ram you took out back inside
laptop and take the other ram out until the blue screen stop coming back.
