no - I don't have the cdrom.
It's a dell laptop. I asked for the cd when I bought it.
They sent me one - but I tried to use it one other time and it says it is the
wrong cd!
I can try it again to see what it does this time though - I'll have to find it!
I've been moving files now in safe mode over to my external hard drive.

will what you say actually boot it to the regular window?

Thanks!

I have the stop error numbers - and looked them up - but got overwhelmed!
0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x804edfda, 0xf7A16608, 0x00000000)

the first one is about the only one that gave me information.

the blue screen also says something about bios and driver updates or changing
video adapters. This is all 'greek' to me!

Do you have the XP CDROM?
If so , boot laptop up off XP CDROM as if you were going to install xp
again, then at the screen were it says "Welcome to Setup" screen appears,
press R to start the Recovery Console. Choose your windows that's broken put
in administrator password if any.
Then at the prompt type CHKDSK /P once that has finished type FIXBOOT after
that type EXIT and you should be able to grab all of your data before the
drive dies again. Sounds like a harddrive about to crash.
