All monitor screens are measured by horizontal X vertical pixels. The fractional relationship between them can then be discussed as a ratio of that particular monitor. For example, 800X600 resolution can be fractionally reduced to 4 X 3 or 4:3 (just divide both numbers by 200 in this case) 1024X768, 1152X864, 1280X960 each also turns out to also be 4:3 (by dividing by 256, 288 and 320 respectively) 1600X900 however, reduces to 16:9, a widescreen format (divide by 100 to reach that conclusion) My own 22" widescreen monitor is set to a native resolution of 1680X1050, which also conforms to the 16:9 widescreen format. Some widescreen monitors prefer a 16:10 ratio in order to look their best (icons and images are not stretched one way more than the other). I sent in a table that lists a bunch of these conversions for Rudy a while back. If you saved it, there's a lot of info beyond what I've included here.
