But we should, if we want to make sensible comments on implementation of these
schemes. As opposed to using marketing brochure-isms as gospel. The cheap shot
example, one among many, being describing how SFNs might be deployed. Vague
words are misleading and frequently plain false. So, when you aggressively
disagree, I won't let you get away with it.
Yes I answered my own question, because you seem incapable
of answering it.
Incapable? Sometimes I struggle just to understand what you're saying, when you
make such amazing assertions, Craig. To claim that one needs a local affiliate,
to put TV content on the Internet, is too absurd to be believed. So I scrolled
down and saw that you answered your own question.
None of these services provide access to live network streams or
their local affiliate streams...
For FREE.
First, you said nothing about "live," when you made your assertion. Second,
fewer and fewer people even give a hoot! Next, "free" was not in the cards
either. The plain fact is that TV network content is readily available on the
Internet, without involving the local affiliates, and that's been going on for
more than 10 years. And "live" content is also available on the Internet,
plenty of it, for those who care. For US TV content, live over the Internet,
you have to pay. But even that does **not** necessarily involve a local
affiliate.
Time to get over it Bert, and stop trying to convince us that the
Internet will destroy the oligopolies that control TV content.
Ooooh! So this is your motive? You are trying desperately to hang on to this
conspiracy theory? Many people have discovered that your conspiracy theory is
falling apart, Craig. They cut the cord and **still manage to watch TV**.
Surprise.
Too bad for the broadcast affiliates. But thanks for confirming what
I said: the affiliates are boxed in - they will survive as long as
the facilities based MVPDs survive, as this is a pre-requisite for
the retransmission consent TAX.
I really did not "confirm" any of this. We've been over this too many times.
The MVPDs evolved, from their origins as rural CATV systems, in a time when
"pretend games" were possible to enforce. But for decades, MVPDs *also* have
not needed to get all the TV network content from local broadcasters. It's
make-believe, Craig, get it? What makes you think that the TV networks cannot
themselves receive the retrans consent $ from monopolistic MVPDs? Bypassing the
local affiliate? I've already asked you this before, and you seem incapable of
responding.
News flash: with Internet distribution, the TV networks and local broadcasters
have not attempted to keep their pretend game going. THIS is why I've repeated
time and again that local broadcasters should play a key distribution
infrastructure role, on the Internet, much as they have been doing OTA.
I think your total reliance on an MVPD distorts your thinking, Craig. You have
not internalized yet how TV content distribution has changed.
Bert
