Craig, you are amazingly clueless about the technical underpinnings of these
technologies. You seem to prefer to indulge in your vague misunderstandings, as
long as you can write copious prose. And worse, you never learn.
It is as I described. The fact that you can offload a phone call onto the
Internet does not in any way change what I described. That WiFi of yours is
still just a local broadband connection, and WiFi is not designed to guarantee
seamless coverage over anything more than the one hotspot.
The reality Bert, is that WiFi is going to carry a substantial
portion of the VOIP load in the future.
Inform yourself on how these technologies work, Craig. Your vague words say
nothing. You're describing an application, not the underlying technologies.
The standard discussed in the Qualcomm article allows the creation
of seamless wireless access across large geographic areas.
And I can also take my computer from one Ethernet connection to another, and
aside from a brief interruption, CERTAIN apps will continue to work. This does
not change that the Ethernet connections are not meant to be seamless over
large geographical areas. You are confused. WiFi is not a cellular standard.
There is no guarantee of seamless coverage, from one hotspot to another, using
WiFi. In fact, there is no guarantee that it will work AT ALL. Unlicensed
spectrum = no guarantees that you can use it, where you are.
This is by design Bert. It is how you create a viable OTA TV service.
Very good, Craig. And guess what? Cellular telephony could easily have been
arranged the same way, which would have conserved a considerable amount of
spectrum.
And how do the networks access TVs that are not connected to an
antenna or MVPD service. How do local stations reach the growing
number of homes that only use Internet access?
Through standard IP that all PCs use, or unfortunately they now also have to
get in bed with the companies that make deliberately crippled devices, to offer
streams that are compatible with each of these. And when there's a delay in
satisfying the needs of some of these deliberately crippled systems, Craig gets
all confused as to why, and claims the content owner is "blocking" that device.
