False. Once again, I have to repeat things. Think of WiFi as nothing more
than a fan-out box for an Internet broadband link. Period.

Missed it COMPLETELY again. The congloms are blocking local affiliates
from making their content available via the Internet. CBS does have a deal
with
some affiliates to offer local broadcasts via a CBS All Access subscription.
Other than that, you may be SOL if you want local stations.
This is false, Craig, and I didn't miss anything. Let me remind you what you
asked:
And how do the networks access TVs that are not connected to an
antenna or MVPD service. How do local stations reach the growing
number of homes that only use Internet access?
It is absolutely true. No station can stream the content from the network it is
affiliated with as they do not have the rights to stream this content. In the
case of CBS All Access some affiliates have agreed to be part of the service
via a revenue sharing agreement.
The question was quite valid, and you failed to address it with your response.
The growing number of households using only a neutral Internet connection, to
get TV content, is why these TV networks are increasing and improving their
online presence, Craig. I remind you: they have been doing this going on 11
years. Where have you been?
Yes, the networks are using the Internet for on demand access to some of their
shows after they have aired. And they have created Hulu to do the same, with
the addition of the live streams in an announced, but not yet introduced VMVPD
service.
But they ARE NOT bypassing their affiliates, and the affiliates are not able to
offer a live stream of their FOTA feed.
The congloms offer their content online **already**, without enlisting any
help from the local affiliates. So, no problem. And if they don't, they CAN.
It's entirely up to them, and no one else. The Internet is mandated to be
neutral. This is a non-problem.
Different services Bert. The fact remains that the congloms are not providing
free access to their live feeds other than through their O&O station and
affiliates. They ARE keeping the MVPD bundles in tact by protecting them in
terms of accessing the live streams.
Also local stations can offer their own content, belonging to them, online
too! And they do! They need no permission from anyone else EITHER. The
Internet is neutral.
Who's watching?
with few exceptions these local shows have little if any entertainment value.
They can stream their newscasts, but that's not what people are looking for on
the Internet; with Internet news the consumer is the "news editor," choosing
which stories to read or watch. Thus most station make major news stories
available, but not entire newscasts.
The fact that CBS may have created a package deal, for their own content and
the local affiliate's, is just an irrelevant detail. In no way does this
imply that people cannot get access to TV network and local station content,
by using the Internet.
At the moment it's the only such game in town, and it is not free.
Regards
Craig
