My wife runs X on a G3 400 with relatively few hang-ups. The graphic
speed isn't amazing, but it is defiantly usable.

nothing about Apples. You can run Jaguar (including OS 9.2.2) on
a G3 233 if you want (although you may not enjoy the
experience!). A G4 should be able to handle it relatively easily
