Any ideas at all on the following?:

I've been reading this thread with interest this evening hoping I could
solve a big riddle I have,, but to no avail.=20

I have a pretty big .pst file - ~ 1.5G. Yeah, OK, I save everything. =
And I
don't want to lose any of it. Any kind of loss sends me teetering on =
the
edge. So, I've tried to archive all of the old stuff. Tried every =
which
way, including just turning off the auto-archive and doing it manually. =
The
folders have been created in my archive.pst file, but all of the old =
email
items stay where they were.=20

So - I've had trouble lately with OL not opening, then OL safemode won't
open sometimes either, then the repair tool runs, and after a few =
reboots I
finally can get OL to run... & all the time I'm biting my nails. Right =
now,
I can get OL Help to open. I receive an error msg - "Error starting MS
Help". And that worries me.=20

Any ideas, suggestions, assistance, whatever? If yes, it would be much
appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Thanks! Yeah, you don't need to open OL all the time with ALL that
stuff...so why have it all in your local PST file. I have separate PSTs =
for
various categories like Web sites, Consulting, TechSupport, CodeIssues, =
etc.
Then I keep local files with a few months of stuff. When I get a chance, =
I
go into the local folders, sort by date. Then open the corresponding =
PST,
like webs and grab all the local/old stuff related to my web sites and =
pass
it over.

If someone asks me about something, I know...if it's older than 3 =
months, a
quick File/Open gets me the archives (without all the MS encryption =
garbage)
and I can easily find what I need. If it's older than 1 yr, then it =
means I
need to toss in last year's CD with email. =20

Hey Dian,
What a great article that is -- I am going to sit down with it over the
weekend when I have time and totally redo the way I'm organizing my mail
using your method. Thanks for the tip!! I'll let you know how it =
works.

Unless you change the name of the archive.pst everytime you do it, it =
will
just keep adding to that file....and, as far as size limits go...a pst =
is a
pst...if archive.pst gets to be 2 gig, Outlook won't open it.

Yeah, that's what I meant -- deleted rather than archived. I do think =
it
would be a smart idea for me to archive my sent items, and I am going to
start doing that, but the real reason I'm loath to archive is that old
habits die hard and I'm so used to having everything right there for me =
to
look at immediately. The reality is that I don't need that stuff most =
of
the time, so I'll probably just reset it so it archives it for me.

I do have a question about that, though: suppose I set it to archive =
once
every 30 days. Will it replace the previous archive file each time, or =
does
it start accumulating archive files each time it runs the procedure? =
Also is
there a limit to how big an archive file can be?

Thanks!
