In reply to Teemu, who asked how the US/UK aliance had helped Spain... What about destroying al-Qaeda training camps? Military action has stopped another generation of potential terrorists from receiving training at these organized facilities. Surely this will benefit Spain and the rest of Europe for decades, though the benefit now is not immediately apparent. After all, one does not become a trained al-Qaeda operative by taking a correspondence course or by signing up for online classes. After the current class of Afghanistan 1995 has been killed or captured, the succeeding al-Qaeda classes will more resemble the Shoebomber than Ramzi Yusef. Or were the US/UK supposed to have hangared their jets and waited for an International Court ruling to unleash the mighty Belgian Air Force against the training camps? Surely there is some role for military action against terrorists that you would accept as valid? The issue here is not to defend Bush policies but to discuss what can actualy be done to fight terrorism.
