What next? That IIT auditoria should be available for use of the
"people's representatives" for their rallies, meetings, demonstrations

It all depends on the interpretation of "common good". And by
any interpretation, the people's representatives don't count :-)
Nearly all government funded universities overseas have Community
Outreach Programs or atleast Open Days which contribute to the
"greater good". For example, NASA for has several outstanding
community outreach programs that target schools and colleges.
And these are all official programs mandated and approved by
the Govt and funding agencies.
Btw, an excellent example a useful mirror is AARNet. It's a
non-profit organisation run by 37 universities and CSIRO to
provide a huge mirror with fast access within Australia (from
most Australian universities, aarnet is faster than a local
cdrom). mirror.aarnet.edu.au was (and probably still is) the
largest and most used mirror site in the Asia/Pac region.
Would be nice to see IIT-M's mirror being the start of something
like AARNet :-)
