First of all we as a community are immensely indebted to you. No words can show
the gratitude we owe to you. Having resources is one, willing to share it for
the common good quite another.
Anyway let me come to the point. I can take over the FreeBSD and Ubuntu
mirroring if that is your decision. To me the decision seems quite fair. I
would love to learn the steps involved in a live mirror setup.
If my coming and physically setting up things is okay with you then I guess I
should be able to take care of pruning the size as well. FreeBSD I guess is the
largest OS out there and there are plenty of binary blobs and huge source trees
that build automatically. It has plenty of compatibility layers and stuff like
that.
Though I am not technically competent to comment on why it is so huge and if
pruning is possible at all these are my top of the mind ideas.
Please let me know if my coming there is acceptable to you. If not I will try
to help you out with the necessary stuff remotely. I will have to do some
research on pruning for instance.
