Yes, any burned CD, especially those burned from iTunes, don't have tags. Could there be an app on the Icon that allowed you to tag them? I have found that if I rip a cd that was previously madefor me such as a cd burnt from a friend's collection, it is not ever taggedproperly. It usually always goes in to a folder called "unknows artist." Also the songs show up as "track 1 and track 2" respectively. I would loveto have help solving this problem if in fact what you are saying is that thecd once ripped should have song titles and such. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Esak" <john@xxxxxxxxx> To: <icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2008 4:41 PM Subject: [icon-discuss] Re: New user with questionsHello all, I want to respond to Stacey's comment about having to tag music first before putting it on the Icon or Braile Plus. The tagging of music files should never be a problem since in most instances it is done automatically for you by whatever conversion program you use to create the .mp3 file in the firstplace. Meaning, if you have a CD that you are converting songs from, whenthe conversion to .mp3 is done, the tagging is automatically accomplished as well. This is true assuming your computer is properly set up to retrieve data from one of the Internet CD services. In many/most cases this setup is performed automatically by the conversion software you use. May I suggest Nero to anyone who does not currently have a program for making CD's or converting CD's to .mp3's, it is thoroughly accessible down to every feature and fucntion. Most downloading programs also will tag the song as it is downloading it, (even iTunes which is, of course, the most completely useless piece of badly written software ever produced. It is thoroughly inaccessible in every rspect.(And this from a company making hundreds of millions possibly even billions of dollars on people's desire to buy andhear music, videos, podcasts, etc. They should be ashamed of themselves... and maybe even government sanctioned until they get on the ethical *human* bandwagon.) Anyway, sorry, jumped onto a big bug-a-boo I have about that. The point I want to make is if you are struglling to add tags to your music just so you can put it on the Icon, maybe we can help you get to a situation where it is an automatic thing like it is for 99% of the music lovers out there. You shouldn't ever have to tag a son. Another good fully accessible program is ADMconverter ... but I'll find some exact names and links in the next week or so and put them up. Heck, with the upcoming release of the next version from LevelStar and APH, moving music files to the Icon is going to be so easy... that you wiull not want to have to waste your time *taggint* your stuff. I also hope the audio player is improved. I would like to be able to put music without having to tag it first. I like how easy it is to check for and download podcasts on the braille+. I look forward to some additional features with RSS in future updates. for example, I would like to be able to delete old podcasts right from the rss program. Also, I hope that improvements in the audio player (we heard about in the recent demonstration of audible and nls access podcast) will apply to listening to podcasts. I expect they will. And finally, I hope the features of the web browser will apply to reading rss text articles. the braille+ has so many things going for it from my perspective. Size, easy of use and range of features are high on the list. I tried a pod catcher on my laptop and didn't like it at all. I found it difficult to use, but I love downloading podcasts with the Braille plus. Thanks. I couldn't find any tutorials on the APH site.I found three files where Larry went through using the product and takingquestions, but no tutorial with the braille keys in mind. Reading the APH manual, there seemed to be so many questions unanswered in my mind. It's like I wanted the manual to go into much more depth on things like setting up rules in email as an example. The email filtering is one of the things that has me pretty excited aboutthis unit and using it when traveling. Also, learning to get connected to an open WiFi network. I also wanted to see more on setting up for podcasts and rss feeds which will be a new thing for me. So, I hope you guys don't mind my asking lots of questions for a while<grin>. However bothwill for sure contain a user manual, the Icon Sync program, and drivers for setting up your unit to use your computer's internet connection with USB. As far as I know, neither CD contains the tutorials you downloaded from the LevelStar website. Both APH and LevelStar maintain separate sets oftutorials and documentation on their various websites. as for reading themanual, there is a Help file on the unit, and your CD will contain the same file. Hope that helps you, Jenny Axler ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Henrichsen To: icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, February 15, 2008 11:38 AM Subject: [icon-discuss] New user with questions Hi, everyone. I will be getting my icon braille plus, hopefully, tomorrow. What is the difference between the cd that comes with the icon and the one that comes with the braille plus? Are the tutorials on the braille plus cd different than the ones I downloaded from the level star site? Also, I was hoping I could find a manual that I could read off line, but all I could find was one online. Is there one on the cd? Lastly, are the training sessions archived anywhere? They usually happen in the day time when I can't attend. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions once I get going. Thanks.
