Hi, Jenny. Know that I am not upset any more today, and that I think very
highly of you and the levelstar and APH staff.
I have absolutely no regrets about buying this unit. I tell every blind
person I talk to about what a great unit it is and how far ahead of the
competition it is.
I just wanted to reply to your statements.
I am absolutely, positively sure this is braille plus and/or icon
related<grin>.
My wife and I checked out my network last evening from her computer. We can
share files between our two desktop computers as well as her laptops, which
are vista and xp. My daughter can use her laptop on our network when she
comes to visit us.
I can even set up sharing wirelessly with my computer on my braille note.
So everything from the computer side is correct.
I had typed the path in correctly to my music folder as well.
I have even set up a shortcut on my desktop which allows me to see all of
the shared folders on my braille plus and can transfer to and from those
folders.
I just can't set anything up on the braille plus side.
I understand that there is no documentation for setting up file sharing,
although I think there should have been at the time of release.
Perhaps it should have been a chapter in the manual just as would be for
using the other new features.
I also understand that you were just trying to show us the new features of
the 1.1 release; so your demonstration of file sharing was by no means
complete nor meant as a tutorial.
I also concede that at some future date, you will be creating tutorials for
all of the new features of this release.
But this is much more complicated than most of the other new features and,
therefore, much harder to comprehend and set up.
You must have guessed that users would find this much more difficult to set
up than moving contacts to another list, understanding the bookshelf or feed
folders or grasping the other new features.
You are going to have people contacting you for help setting up sharing on
both xp and vista.
I have seen people with xp on this list having trouble getting things to
work. This surprised me because in your demo, on your xp machine, it worked
so well.
My mistake was in thinking this would be as easy as you made it appear
during your demo.
And for that, I apologize.
I do have something from the pc side, at least, for now, and transferring at
375 to 400 kbps is sure better than by USB at 7 kbps.

Paul,

While it is true that testing was not done with Vista, and maybe should have

been, there is no documentation on how to set up with XP either other than
my podcast which, is more about demonstrating an example of how to access
shared files from the unit. I did not go over how to set things up on the
PC side of things in XP or any other operating system. If you check out
other PDA's that support netwowrking, you will find that the only
documentation provided is on the side of the PDA. It is up to you to
research how to set things up on the computer side of things. We cannot be
responsible for knowing the ins and outs of every operating system,
Microsoft or otherwise. You might wish to check out Microsoft.com to look
through their knowledge base concerning troubleshooting network issues. i'd

be curious, have you tried to access shared files on your vista PC from
another PC? In other words, are you sure this is specifically Braille +
related?
