  If you just want to draw standard shapes there are easier programs to use. 
Sketchup is quite sophisticated and the officianados usually use it for drawing 
buildings and towns although you can draw small items as well. I have used it 
to draw furniture which I then make. I'll attach a sample for you to look at.
