Telnet allows you to actually type commands into your computer as opposed to 
just pointing and clicking.  You can move and copy files, create folders and 
run scripts.  Not all Web hosts will give your server Telnet access.  Here is 
where I got my information.

telnet at materiamagica.com port 23 and telnet://140.147.254.3.  I created a 
character for the Materia Magica game and a class and declined playing the 
hardcore game.  I learned that I don't really care for telnet.  For me it is 
time consuming and a little bit annoying.
