hi Cindy. that's the beautiful thing about a book-edge scanner. once you place the page face down on the scanner, and you['ve got the hanging portion of the book against the front of the scanner, and you close the lid, in most cases, you don't have to hold anything. you just put it on the scanner and hit the scan button. That's pretty much it.
