HI Julie and Robin,
I have scanned some books that I wonder what the general interest in is. But
like any good library they build and offer a diverse collection. I know I
have been surprised at times some of the less mainstream books that are
available. If I had a say in it I would like to see the release date and
download count on books. I am not sure what kind of problems BookShare might
have with providing this kind of information.

Hi, Robin. I agree with you. I think, though, at least for me, there are
some types of books I would scan regardless of the statistics, like the book
I'm working on right now. I really want this book for my own personal use,
and it's taking a lot of cleanup to get it to where I want it for the site,
but since I plan on using this book, it's worth it. No matter what settings
I use, there are some consistent errors I'm having to fix, so I don't know
if the font is strange in some places or what the problem might be. Anyway,
all that to say there are some books at least I would scan, regardless of
the statistics, but there are some that, frankly, again, at least for me, I
wouldn't bother with and let someone who is more interested in them do the
leg work if I knew they weren't highly popular. Besides that, at least for
me, I think it would be nice to know what I scan is being read, but that's
just for my own personal satisfaction. <smile> Take care.

I know I'm coming in late on this thread, so if I'm not understanding the
quesiton at hand correctly, I appologize. While I see the benefit of
knowing which books are more popular with bookshare.org subscribers, I
would not want to see a decline in submissions of less popular
books. Understanding the numbers might help us prioritize books,
especially books in a series as Mike pointed out. One of the nice things
about bookshare, though, is that one can find some of the more obscure
books which people contribute from their own personal collections.
