What makes it even more interesting Jim, is when the copyright is not in the
Copyright.gov website.

I have one that it looks as though they were going to copyright it.

But it says

Printed 1996, seventh edition, copyright pending.

Which is frankly very strange.

Smile, and this book does not contain any information on holder.

Old dogs are the treasure at the other.

Just to let folks know, I touched base with our lawyer about the "we
have the entire book but there's no copyright notice" question. Our
legal requirement under Section 121 is "include a copyright notice
identifying the copyright owner and the date of the original
publication." Usually, this is on a front matter page. If we don't
have either, we can't put it up on Bookshare.org. I'm wondering if
there is another acceptable way to track this information down if it's
not in the book itself.

Of course, the usual reason we reject books as lacking copyright is
because the person scanning the book didn't scan that page. In such
cases, going back and scanning the copyright page and adding it back
into the file is the only reasonable solution if that book is available.

But, I found this corner case interesting and worth a little more
investigation.
