The weather was perfect and there was a great turnout last night at
the Thunderbird Park Star Party in NW Phoenix. I estimate several
hundred people came. There was a couple dozen telescopes set up. I
brought my 13.1" Yellow DOB and looked at the moon most of the time
with 58X and a moon filter.

While the seeing was rather poor and the sky glow bright, people
still were pleased with what they saw. In addition to the sights of
the moon and Mars, the double double Epsilon Lyrae brought ohhh's of
amazement as well as several deep sky objects.

At sunset Arcturus in the western sky seemed to be exceptionally
bright and had many wondering what it was. Well after dark rising
Cappella in the north east display a brilliant explosion of flashing
colors as its star light filtered thought a very large air mass
producing a spectrum of blazing colors. Some were convinced it was an
airplane until they looked at it with a telescope.

I think everyone had a great time.

Jeff
