eGreetz, Richard (and others)....
I have your book, Richard...
THX for the link and address to USNO... I have been hearing about the
new UCAC 4 release for some time now, on the IOTAoccultations and MPML
yahoo groups....
It is the latest and greatest update for calculating occultations, and
chasing NEOs (asteroids).
Works well with the Occult software from IOTA:
http://www.lunar-occultations.com/iota/occult4.htm
and Guide 9.0 from Project Pluto, by Bill Gray:
http://www.projectpluto.com/

Taki's mag 8 star atlas (mentioned earlier) is useful, and free.

Cheers,
Gene Lucas

Speaking of deep sky charts, I just received the complete UCAC 4 catalog--
100 million stars to mag 19-- on 4 CD ROMs from the USNO. They are free for
the asking (the Navy even pays for the stamps!). I have not yet installed
them on my backup hard drive (will probably run about 25 gig), but programs
like Guide and TheSky let you import data from such catalogs and plot them
in the displays. That might even get you faint enough to challenge Chris
Hanrahan or Paul Knauth!

Log onto the USNO site
(http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/astrometry/optical-IR-prod/ucac) and click
the link to Brenda.hicks@xxxxxxxx and ask her for a set. Supply your
mailing
address, and you'll have them in about a week.
