Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church

I pray you are calm in your spirits as you engage the pathway that is opening before you.

There are times whenever we observe some event or occurrence that seems to be out of place.   Because of our conditioned practices of making evaluations of things we see and hear, activities that do not conform to our understanding of order and efficiency are interpreted as being strange, unreasonable, unimportant, even ridiculous or absurd.  Without having the expected characteristics that we believe are essential, we might easily dismiss these experiences as encounters that have no meaning or purpose, things that cannot contribute to our quest for spiritual fulfillment, inner contentment, and physical peacefulness.  The things that appear to us as silly and ludicrous, however, may have the capacity to reach into the depths of our existence is ways that no other manifestations can do.  In fact there may be no substitute for some apparently absurdities to bring to us recognition of a primordial wisdom that will work to perfectly integrate our human experience and bring eternal consolation for our souls.  In the passages before us today, we are given a window through which we can glimpse something of this elemental wisdom.

The scriptures we will be considering on the Palm Sunday, Apr 17, are Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29; Matthew 21:1-11; and Philippians 32:5-11.  Thoughts prompted by these passages will compose the sermon, 'How absurd the righteous king appears.'
