hi Elenor, I just think this whole thing has not been delt with satisfactory in the case of members of the talking book service. I think anyone who has a subscription with the service, should be eligible for one of these new machines, or will the biggest majority of the new players go for sale for cash?,Call me a skeptic if you like Billy----- Original Message ----- From: "ELEANOR BURKE" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, May 10, 2009 6:59 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Talking Book LibraryBilly what they are saying, they being the powers that be! is that when they start having the machines in permanently it will be on the basis of what is there in stock for a new member or for one who is returning a faulty machine. No criteria by the sound of it. I am somewhat confused then why they have been doing this pilot and what the purpose of it is/was. They have not asked people for their opinions on the machines which I mentioned to the RNIB on Friday and was duly told that the people will be asked for their opinions this week!!! Guess they will be rushing to get something out to them. It will then be a matter of people responding and the RNIB colating the responses. Wonder what format the respondants will be using for their feedback.Elelanor----- Original Message ----- From: "trueblue & proud" <hotscot72@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, May 10, 2009 6:53 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Talking Book LibraryElenor, any Idea when the new machines will go on stream for members?, if ever,Billy----- Original Message ----- From: "ELEANOR BURKE" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, May 09, 2009 11:19 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Talking Book LibraryOK Barbra I'm at my PC and I'm amused. It is similar in size and shape to its predecessor but the button size and layout has been changed, making them easier to distinguish and more intuitive to use. A USB port and SD memory card slot provide users with access to a wider range of reading material. The built-in memory provides an electronic bookshelf where users can store their favourite content, and it comes with a 12 month subscription to RNIB's BookStream book club. It also has a text-to-speech programme which further expands the range of content that can be accessed.I cannot see how it can be claimed that the offer is closed. I tried to buy the PTX1 together with one year's subscription to the Bookstream Book club but was told that this offer had now closed. I therefore just joined theBookstream club for £50.Having said that, I read last week in New Products that the offer is still advertised. If I find that it is still current, I will be most displeasedwith RNIB. However, I haven'thad time to read 'Read on', so I am at fault there.I was contacted by the talking library some months ago, but it was just to see how I rated the current service - No mention of the new talking bookmachine. It's a shame that only new members are eligible. I suppose we could cancelthen re-join. I understand that there is a pilot going on at present with regard to this machine but equally I understand that no existing member of the library will be entitled to one of these new books, only new members will receive them. For those of you in the pilot, what do you think of the machine and out of interest did the Talking Book Library contact you directly about this pilot scheme or did you hear about it through Read-on, the Talking Book Library CD sent out tomembers.
